Lahore: 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth of Britain celebrated at Pearl Continental hotel, here today. Punjab’s Governor Rafiq Rajwana & Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif attended the function .
The CM Shahbaz Sharif and British High Commissioner Thomas Drew cut the birthday cake. Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Muhammad Iqbal, diplomats, Chinese Consul General, American Consul General, provincial ministers, politicians, intellectuals and prominent personalities of different walks of life were present.
The Chief Minister expressed good wishes for the British Queen and also prayed for her long life. He paid tributes to British Queen for her public services and said that she has played a commendable role for promoting friendship between Pakistan and Britain.
Shahbaz Sharif said that there are deep-rooted friendly ties between Pakistan and Britain and Britain has helped in strengthening of democratic system and promotion of democratic traditions in Pakistan. He said that cooperation of Britain in education, health, skill development and other sectors in Punjab is commendable. He said that British Department for International Development is playing a laudable role in reforms in education and health sectors as well as skill development. He said that British cooperation in healthcare, promotion of primary education, supremacy of law and other fields is praiseworthy.
The Chief Minister said that proper use of every penny of British taxpayer money has been ensured. He said that cooperation between Pakistan and Britain is increasing with the passage of time and the function held today is a clear proof of friendship between the peoples of Pakistan and Britain.
The Chief Minister also felicitated British citizens on birthday of Queen Elizabeth. British High Commissioner said that Shahbaz Sharif is the best friend of Britain. He said that Chief Minister Punjab has transformed Lahore and Punjab and there is a positive change in the province with regard to progress and prosperity.
