Lahore: Director General Sports Punjab Usman Anwar, on Monday, said the future of powerlifting is bright in Pakistan and we are quite hopeful that Pakistan team will win several medals in international powerlifting events during the on-going calendar year; he was talking to media at the closing ceremony of National Men and Women Powerlifting Championship organized under the banner of Sports Board Punjab and Pakistan Powerlifting Federation at Nishtar Park Sports Complex Gymnasium Hall.
DG SBP Usman Anwar, who was Chief Guest at the closing ceremony, distributed prizes among the position holders in various categories. Earlier, Director Sports Punjab Hafeez Bhatti, Deputy Director Tariq Wattoo also distributed prizes in some events.
Assistant Director Waqas Akbar and Public Relations Officer SBP Abdul Rauf were also present on this occasion.
M Rashid Malik, Organising Secretary and other officials welcomed DG SBP Usman Anwar at Nishtar Park Sports Complex Gymnasium Director General Sports Punjab Usman Anwar said engaging youth in sports is our top priority and it is the area in which we are focusing to a great extent. He said Pakistan male and female athletes excelled in Asian Powerlifting Championship last year in Muscat. “We are quite hopeful that our athletes will offer even much better performance this year in international events,” he added.
Replying a query regarding measures for the sports promotion, DG SBP Usman Anwar said: “We are not promoting a single game. We are emphasizing on all sports and always encourage our youth to choose the sport as per their liking and passion. It’s our earnest inclination to see our players participating and winning medals in various parts of the world,” he elaborated.
When asked about Sports City and other projects, DG SBP said various key projects are in pipeline and some of them are near completion. “These projects will be completed and inaugurated in the due course of time and whenever they are completed they will be opened for usage of national athletes,” he maintained.
