DFID is providing support for delivery of basic services : Tim Williams

Mandi Bahauddin(Sher Gondal) : Representative of Department for International Development (DFID) Tim Williams has said DFID was providing support to administrative, institutional and regulatory arrangement for delivery of basic services by the lower levels of government after devolution of delivery mechanisms to local government.

He was addressing newly elected local government councilors, chairmen and government functionaries. He stressed for close cooperation and coordination between government functionaries and local government representatives for better delivery of service fields including health and education.

He said his department was also giving technical assistance to local bodies representatives for increasing their capacity in planning, budgeting, monitoring and delivery of service. 712 elected councilors and government functionaries were undergoing training on new local government system, planning and budgeting.  He said with setting up Global Information System, efficiency of local government will further improve.

Earlier DCO Muzaffar Sial briefed Sub-National Government (SNG) team on delivering health and education services in the district. He said health facilities in the district had improved and adequate medicines were available for patient’s treatment. Authorized medical equipments are available in hospitals and primary medical facilities in the district, he added.

He said with setting up Global Information System government capacity and efficiency will further increase for effective delivery of need based services to people. The representative appreciated district government for making improvement in delivery of service.
