SBP plans a number of sports events on 23rd March

Lahore: A large number of sports events are scheduled to be held on Wednesday under the auspices of Sports Board Punjab (SBP) in different cities of Punjab in connection with Youm-e-Pakistan celebrations on March 23, 2016.

Sports Board Punjab to organize three hockey matches at National Hockey Stadium to mark the occasion in a befitting manner. The first match will be played between Quaid-i-Azam XI and Allama Iqbal XI. Fatima Jinnah XI will be pitted against Begum Rana Liaqat Ali Khan in the women hockey contest while the third match will be contested between former Olympians and staff of Sports Board Punjab.

The district of Rahimyar Khan will remain very busy on March 23. The historic day will commence with Flag ceremony and Forces March Past at Abbasia Sports Complex at 9.00am. The Inter-Tehsil/District Special Education Kids Sports event will conclude at Abbasia Sports Complex at 2.00pm.

The finals of 3-day All-Punjab Day/night Badminton Championship (girls & boys) will held at Liaqat Hall, Liaqatpur. The 2-day Sindh Punjab Shooting Volleyball event will also come an end at Abbasia Sports Complex at 2.00pm. The final of All-Pakistan Football Tournament will be played at 3.00pm in Khanpur.

The event of mud wrestling will be staged at Tenki ground, Eidgah Road at 3.00pm. The 4-day All-Punjab Sona Inter-District Circle Kabaddi Tournament will also kick offon Wednesday at Abbasia Sports Complex at 2.00pm.

The district of Bahawalnagar is scheduled to host four sports events on March 23. Firstly, the finals of 3-day girls & boys table tennis, badminton and basketball events will be played at Haider stadium. The hockey championship will also be competed at City H/S ground.

The final of 2-day Punjab Karate Championship will be played at 9.00am at Crescent Sports Complex, Faisalabad. The events of Mini Marathon and Mini Marathon of Deaf Persons will start at 8.30am from DPS Jail Road to Main Gate Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad.

The Sports stadium Khanewal will host exhibition cricket match on Wednesday at9.00am. The Kabaddi and tug-of-war events will also be held at the same venue at4.00 and 5.00pm in the evening respectively.

Liaqatbagh Sports Complex, Rawalpindi will host District Karate Championship and kick-boxing exhibition match at 10.00am and 12.00noon respectively.

The district of Bhakkar will host kabaddi and volleyball events at Jamil Stadium and Gulshan Nazir Park respectively. The events of rugby and Inter-District Mat Wrestling are slated to be held at Sports Ground and Multan Gymnasium respectively.

The Inter-Club Boys Badminton Championship will be contested at 11.00am at Sir Syed Sports Complex, Sargodha. A grand marathon race will be held in Nankana Sahib. The race will start at 10.00am at Ahmed Shah Road. Vehari’s Khursheed Anwar Stadium will host Inter-School Tug-of-War contest at 4.00pm.

Meanwhile; Director General Sports Punjab Usman Anwar has urged the youth of the country to utilise their abilities fully and win laurels for the beloved country; he was addressing Youm-e-Pakistan sports events ceremony at Nishtar Park Sports Complex Gymnasium Hall on Tuesday.

DG SBP Usman Anwar, who was chief guest on this occasion, said Sports Board Punjab has provided all facilities and a suitable platform to talented youth of the country and now it’s upto them to avail these opportunities to the maximum.

He said SBP arranged expert coaches and trainers for the potential players and now it’s young players’ turn to show extraordinary results and win world titles in their respective sports. “We are also launching sports academies next year to equip our youngsters with top level training,” he added. DG SBP appreciated the passion shown by the young players on this occasion.

Earlier, DG SBP Usman Anwar was received warmly upon his arrival at Nishtar Park Sports Complex. All the participating players were introduced to DG SBP Usman Anwar who also witnessed the competitions of mat wrestling, shooting, judo, badminton, table tennis, weightlifting and taekwondo.

Earlier, Quaid-i-Azam XI outplayed Allama Iqbal XI by 3-1 in a Youm-e-Pakistan hockey match played under the banner of Sports Board Punjab (SBP) at National Hockey Stadium on Tuesday.

Director Sports Punjab Hafeez Bhatti was the chief guest on this occasion. Deputy Director Tariq Wattoo, Assistant Directors Waqas Akbar and Rana Nadeem Anjum also witnessed the match. Naqqash Butt struck all the three goals for the winning team. Amir netted the only goal for Allama Iqbal XI.

Mian Bilal emerged winner in the Youm-e-Pakistan tennis match played in Bagh-e-Jinnah Tennis Coaching Centre. Bilal thrashed Hashir Farooq by 6-1, 3-6 and 6-3.
