Fisheries Department sends 18 officers to Thailand for training

Director General Fisheries Dr. Muhammad AyubLahore: In accordance with the vision of Chief Minister Punjab regarding development of south Punjab, Fisheries Department has sent 18 officers to Thailand for training in intensive culture which is the modern method of fishery in brackish and salt waters. These officers will also get training in cage culture for rearing fish in small dams of Potohar region.

This was stated by Director General Fisheries Punjab Dr. Muhammad Ayub while talking to media men at his office, here today. He said that these officers after acquiring five weeks training at Asian Institute of Technology will put their knowledge in practical use at the government and private fish farms in south Punjab and Potohar region. He said that these officers during their training will also visit the largest processing unit of South East Asia in Thailand.

Dr. Muhammad Ayub further said that officers of Fisheries Department are being sent for training abroad under the Chief Minister’s vision of bringing about a blue revolution in aqua culture so that this sector could be modernized for strengthening national economy.

He said that the five-member committee set up by Chairman Planning & Development for the selection of the officers for sending abroad for training comprises three senior officers of Fisheries Department besides Dean, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences and Professor of Zoology and Fisheries at Virtual University.

He said that most of the officers to be sent abroad are already working on these projects. He said that the first batch of the officers has proceeded for training while in the second phase, 20 more officers will be sent.

DG Fisheries further informed that those who were sent for training include six Deputy Directors Fisheries, nine Assistant Directors Fisheries, one District Officer Fisheries, a Statistical Officer and a Botanist.
