Lahore: A seminar and a walk were arranged under the aegis of Department of Nephrology, King Edward Medical University in connection with World Kidney Day at Mayo Hospital, the other day.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Faisal Masood led the walk and also inaugurated free camp set up for kidney patients.
Addressing the seminar, Prof, Faisal Masood said that creating awareness about diseases among the people is essential so that they should get medical checkup on regular basis. He said that timely diagnoses and early treatment can help in controlling diseases. Faisal Masood further said that failure of kidney of any person is not less than a tragedy for a family.
MS Mayo Hospital Dr. Amjad Shahbaz said that doctors are serving the patients despite limited resources. He said that in spite of heavy rush of patients, services of doctors and nurses are appreciable.
Dr. Amjad Shahzad said that people should control blood pressure and sugar for protecting themselves from kidney diseases. Moreover, treatment from quacks and unqualified Hakeems is causing kidney diseases.
Head of Department of Nephrology Prof. Muhammad Anees told that Nephrology Department has been formally working since 2013 and it has produced five nephrologists so far. He said that his department is providing training facilities for fellowship.
Earlier, former Director General Health and MS Mayo Hospital Dr. Zahid Pervaiz also addressed the seminar. He also informed about his struggle made for the establishment for nephrology department. Prof. Faisal Masood said that well-to-do give more donations in Pakistan and they have provided crores of rupees for dialysis machines and development works in Mayo Hospital.
Prof. Irshad Hussain Qureshi, Prof. Muhammad Athar, Associate Prof. Irfan ul Haq and other senior doctors attended the seminar.
Later, Prof. Masood led an awareness walk inside Mayo Hospital in which students of King Edward Medical University, doctors and nurses of the hospital participated.
