PG Trainee doctors will have to serve in underdeveloped areas of Punjab

Najam Ahmad ShahLahore: In order to providing best healthcare facilities to the people at the district level, Post Graduate Trainee doctors who have completed two years’ training,  would be placed at District and Tehsil Headquarters hospitals for three months on rotations, which will be considered as a part their training.

Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department would pay an additional stipend of Rs. 25000/-per month to the visiting PGRs as an incentive. The Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Deptt.  and Primary & Secondary Healthcare Deptt have entered into a partnership with College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan.

This was stated by the Secretary SHC&ME Najam Ahmad Shah, here today.  He said that Chief Minister Mohammad Shahbaz Sharif has assigned a very high priority for improving quality and coverage of health services. He said that under this programme, ten postgraduate Residents (PGRs) from Anesthesia, General Surgery, Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Paediatric Surgery, Radiology, Pathology and Medicine would be posted from teaching hospitals for three months at the selected DHQ Hospitals.

The PGRs shall be rotated from Tertiary Hospitals as from Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU)/Sir Ganga Ram Hospital to DHQ hospital Sheikhupura, Services Institute of Medical Sciences/Services Hospital to DHQ Nankana Sahib, Allama Iqbal Medical College/ Jinnah Hospital to DHQ Okara, Nishter Medical college/ Nishter Hospital Multan to DHQ Khanewal, Ameer ud din Medical college /LGH to DHQ Kasur and Rawalpindi Medical College / BBH to DHQ Hospital Attock.

He said that main objective of this initiative is to ensure quality healthcare services and consultative services of specialist doctors to the people of remote districts. These instructions have been conveyed to all the concerned for implementation in letter and spirit in the best interest of general public.
