Lahore: Punjab government has issued a notification for reducing public transport fares in view of reduction in prices of petroleum products. Announcement has been made for reduction of 11.9 percent of fares of public transport on petrol and 6.16 percent on diesel.
This decision was taken in a meeting presided over by Provincial Minister for Food Bilal Yasin. Secretary Transport Shaukat Khan, RTA Ch. Muhammad Iqbal and transporters were present on the occasion. The meeting decided with the consultation of transporters that transport fares will be reduced with the ratio of reduction in petroleum products. A four-member committee comprising two members each from transport department and transporters was constituted for the preparation of regular schedule of reduction in fares with mutual consultation.
The Minister issued instructions to Commissioners and DCOs for strict implementation of the notification regarding reduction in transport fares so that fruits of reduction in petroleum products could reach the common man. He further said that he will pay surprise visits to districts of south Punjab and check the transport for reduction in fares. He said that no negligence will be tolerated in this regard. He said that common man will benefit from reduction in transport fares and better transport facilities will be available to them.
