Lahore: Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Senator Sirajul Haq, has termed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s threat to the NAB as astonishing and said that in such a situation, a transparent and totally impartial accountability could not be expected.
In a statement here on Wednesday, he said that the parties in power were trying to protect their leaders and workers. He said that not allowing the NAB to work freely and placing restrictions on the constitutional organizations was tantamount to obstructing the supremacy of the constitution and the law.
Sirajul Haq said the main complaint the nation had from the NAB was that it was proceeding on the basis of liking and disliking, and not in accordance with the constitution and the law. He said that small people were hauled up easily while the files of the big plunderers who had swallowed trillions had not been touched for years. Besides, he said, those who had plundered billions of the public money were given a clean chit after paying off paltry amounts.
He said that in view of this state of affairs, the JI had decided to launch a country wide campaign against corruption. He said the JI campaign was not against any individual but aimed at improving the working of the institutions.
He appealed to all patriotic and law abiding people to unite against corruption and dishonest practices that alone could save the future of the country and the nation. He said that Pakistan and corruption could not go together and the masses should rise to protect the institutions before it was too late.
