Lahore: Secretary Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Najam Ahmed Shah has directed concerned officers to accelerate the work on Rawalpindi Institute of Urology. He directed officers of Building Department to prepare timeline and schedule of civil works up to June and submit it within two days. Najam Ahmed Shah said that funds will be provided according to the speed of work for completion of the project.
He said this while presiding over a meeting to review the progress of the work on Rawalpindi Institute of Urology and Kidney Transplant at Civil Secretariat, today.
Additional Secretary Health (Development) Malik Zaheer Abbas, Chief Planning Officer Abdul Haq Bhatti, officers of P&D as well as DCO Rawalpindi Sajid Zafar Dal, PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi, Principal Rawalpindi Medical College Prof. Muhammad Umar, Project Director RIU Prof. Mamtaz Ahmed and officers of Building Department attended the meeting through video link from Rawalpindi.
Project Director and officers of Building Department gave briefings about their requirements and steps for completion of the project. They told that more 150 million rupees will be spent up to June. Secretary Health said that funds will be provided to the Building Department according to the speed on civil works of the project and there will be no hindrance in this regard.
He said that Rawalpindi Institute of Urology is public welfare project upon which billions of rupees are being spent. He said that early completion of the project is necessary so that people could benefit from medical facilities.
Principal Rawalpindi Medical College Prof. Muhammad Umar told that the list of medical equipments for RIU has been prepared upon which about two billion rupees will be spent. Najam Ahmed Shah directed that the list of medical equipments for the institute should be once again revisited and rationalized list should be prepared so that all necessary equipments and machinery could be purchased. He made it clear that all necessary steps should be taken for making Rawalpindi Institute of Urology functional by 2017 and civil works should be completed at the earliest.
PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi said on the occasion that setting up of Cardiac institute at Rawalpindi by Chief Minister Punjab, not only treatment facilities of cardiac patients have become available to Rawalpindi division but people of KPK, Azad Kashmir and other areas are benefiting from these facilities.
He said that Rawalpindi Institute of Urology is also a splendid project of treatment of kidney diseases and kidney transplantation and after its completion best treatment facilities will be available to lakhs of poor people. He said that this mega project will prove another milestone in health sector.
