Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif presided over a high level meeting, here today, which reviewed overall law & order situation and the measures taken under National Action Plan for elimination of terrorism.
The meeting expressed satisfaction over the steps taken under National Action Plan for curbing terrorism, extremism and sectarianism.
Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister said that protection of life and property of people is the top priority of the government and the Punjab government is taking all out measures for this purpose. He said that police should perform his duties efficiently for curbing criminal elements. He said that supremacy of law should be ensured in the province and no effort should be spared for the provision of justice. He said that the steps taken for routing out terrorism and extremism under the National Action Plan are yielding positive results. He said that in order to eliminate terrorism, extremism and sectarianism, amendments have been made in the law and punishments have been made more stringent.
The Chief Minister directed concerned institutions to continue indiscriminate action against banned organizations and the activities should be completely checked. He further directed that action should be continued indiscriminately against the publication and distribution of literature spreading religious hatred. He said that the law regarding ban on use of loud speaker and wall-chalking should be strictly implemented. He said that the speeches promoting hatred are not tolerable and indiscriminate action should be taken against the elements involved as there is a need for promotion of peace, brotherhood and tolerance in the society.
Shahbaz Sharif said that there is no room for terrorism, extremism and sectarianism in the Pakistan of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the whole nation is united to eliminate terrorism from the country. He said that indiscriminate and effective action will be continued against terrorists and their facilitators for completing the mission of restoring peace in the country. He said that terrorism and extremism will be routed out for setting up a peaceful society and no effort will be spared in this regard.
Provincial Minister for Law Rana Sanaullah, Chief Secretary Khizar Hayat Gondal, Inspector General Police, Secretaries of Home, Public Prosecution and Information Departments as well as concerned officers were present in the meeting.
