Lahore: Chief Minister Punjab’s Special Assistant and former IG Rana Maqbool Ahmed has said that problems related to road traffic and safety will be resolved through establishment of Road and Transport Management Bureau . He said that Citizen Facilitation Centers will be established at district level where matters related to traffic will be resolved under one roof. He said that traffic jams will not be tolerated and relevant departments must improve their mutual coordination to ensure the comfort and safety of citizens.
He expressed these views while presiding over a high level meeting of Traffic Reforms committee. The meeting was attended by Senior Member SMU Salman Sufi, Secretary Excise & Taxation, CCPO Lahore, Additional Secretary Home, Additional Secretary Transport, CTO Lahore and representatives of relevant departments.
Rana Maqbool instructed the authorities to engage Punjab Police with Traffic Police on different areas of the city to resolve traffic mess. He said that it will help in securing citizens from criminals and traffic jams as well. He said that the structure of Road Transport Management Bureau is finalized. It will consist of two units at provincial level: Policy unit and Technical Unit.
Representatives of all related departments including Home, Police, Excise & Taxation, Communication & Works, PHA, Transport, Housing and Urban development and Local Government will be present under one roof. He said that Citizen Facilitation Centers will be made at district level.
These centers will be one roof for public dealing functions including traffic challenging, fine collection, issuance of driver license, fitness certification, route permit issuance and renewal, insurance certification, motor vehicle registration and other public dealing functions relating to motor vehicles, roads and traffic. The representatives of all public dealing departments will be stationed at these centers under one roof. He informed that Punjab Driving Education Centers will be established for public convenience.
Senior Member SMU, Salman Sufi told the gathering that all traffic signal of the city will be transferred on solar energy and they will be operational 24/7. Meeting was informed that a pilot project of separate lanes for motorcycle riders will be launched soon. He said that project related to payment of traffic Challans through ATM is also in the pipeline and will be implemented soon.
