Lahore: Punjab University teachers held a protest demonstration in New Campus and warned Punjab Govt. to besiege the Chief Minister’s House and to give sit-ins on The Mall and Canal Road if notices to demolish teacher’s houses are not withdrawn immediately. The warning was issued in an emergent meeting of Academic Staff Association (ASA) attended by hundreds of teachers at Al-Raazi Hall here on Monday.
ASA President Dr Hassan Mobeeen Alam, Secretary Dr Mahboob Hussain and Vice President Dr Abid Hussain Ch presided over the meeting where teachers expressed their resolve to opt to any extreme to save their hard earned houses constructed in PU Housing Society on Raiwind Road after paying consecutive installments during last 13 years. They urged CM Punjab and Vice Chairman LDA Khawaja Ahmad Hassan to honor their promises made with the PU teachers in front of hundreds of teachers in an ASA meeting. They alleged that reportedly in order to save the land of Provincial Minister Mujtaba Shuja Ur Rehman and other politicians PU teachers are being threatened to vacate the land for Metro Train Offices which can be constructed elsewhere on nearby available vacant lands.
The meeting also decided that a body of senior teachers would take up the matter with the government officers concerned otherwise protest move will be launched after the scheduled ASA meeting on Tuesday (today).
Later the teachers held a protest demonstration while carrying banners in supports of their demands.
