1635 non operational water pumps will be made operational:Malik Tanveer Aslam Awan

Lahore: Provincial Minister for Housing, Urban Development, Communication and Works Malik Tanveer Aslam Awan has said that 1635 non operational water pumps will be made operational under Rural Water Scheme.

He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting held to review restoration programme of non operational water pumps. He said that government is launching restoration programme of 1635 non operational water pumps at a cost of 6.6 million rupees under Rural Water Scheme.

He said that water theft is an important problem and there is a need for resolving an effective monitoring system for checking water theft. He said that without community participation, this programme cannot be become successful, therefore, participation of community based organizations (CBOs) should be made compulsory.

He said that fixation of responsibilities of CBOs is responsibility of department. He said that public health engineering department should sign an agreement with union councils and Water and Sanitation User Committee for implementation of provision and drainage of water in rural areas. The Minister stressed upon better mechanism for redressal of complaints.

The meeting was informed that third part survey will be conducted for maintaining transparency in this programme of restoration.

Member Provincial Assembly Kashif Padhyar, Member Planning and Development Board, Finance Department, Secretary Industry Department, Secretary Housing and Urban Development, Secretary Local Government, Chief Executive Officer Punjab Saaf Pani Company, Managing Director WASA  and other officers were also present on this occasion.
