Renowned Physicist Prof Dr Muhammad Saleem passes away

PULahore: Internationally-acknowledge renowned physicist and former PU Dean Faculty of Science Prof Dr Muhammad Saleem passed away here on Friday. He was 82. Dr Saleem was founder of PU Centre for High Energy Physics and authored a number of research papers and books.

Dr Saleem was the first Muslim Physicist who became the member of editorial board of international research journal “Hadronic Journal” by Institute of Basic Research, Cambridge, USA. His funeral prayer was offered at University Law College Ground in which PU VC Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, Rector Virtual University Prof Dr Naveed A Malik, ex-VC Lahore Garrison University Dr Jameel, deans of various faculties, heads of institutions, ASA President Prof Dr Hassan Mobeen Alam, Vice President Prof Dr Abid Hussain Chaudhry, Secretary Dr Mahboob Hussain, senior faculty members and a large number of Dr Saleem’s students and relatives participated.

In his condolence message, PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran said that it was an irreparable loss to the country and we had deprived of the best teacher and a great physicist.

He said that Dr Saleem was master of his subject and his lectures were very organized. He said that Dr Saleem played pivotal role while there was ideological conflict on campus in the past and gathered teachers. He added further that Dr Saleem had a creative mind and his research was acknowledged worldwide. Later, Dr Saleem was buried in the university graveyard.
