Lahore: Provincial Minister for Women Development Hameeda Waheed ud Din has said that change in the social mind set is essential for eradicating violence against women.
She said this while addressing the launching ceremony of Standardized Indicators on violence against women under the aegis of National Commission for Women.
Chairperson National Women Commission Khawar Mumtaz, Yasmin Zaidi, Representatives Provincial Commission for Women Sidra Mehnaz, Farah Tariq and others also addressed the function. Representatives of organizations working for women rights also participated the function and discussed causes and eradication of violence against women.
Hameeda Waheed ud Din said that in view of the importance of women role in national development, government has given special importance to the participation of women and their protection in women package 2012 and 2014. She said that standing committee of Punjab Assembly and Provincial Cabinet have given approval to the bill of eradicating violence against women which will be presented in the next session of the assembly.
The Provincial Minister said that the case of honor killing of women will be heard in the anti terrorist court. She said that women help desks have been set up in 100 model police stations of the province. She said that further amendments are being made in harassment act and these steps are being included in the syllabus.
Hameeda Waheed ud Dun said that help centers are being set up for the social and legal help of oppressed women throughout the province. She appreciated the step of national commission for women for compiling data of women facing violence and termed it an important step for eliminating violence.
