Lahore: Female weightlifter Neelum Riaz of Pakistan finished 4th in the Afro-Asian Weightlifting Championship in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt on Friday.
Egypt won the title while Tunis and Algeria grabbed next two positions in the championship. Neelum lifted her weight in 63kg category and lost the title by only one kilogram.
Later, talking to media, Neelum said though she could not win the event but featuring in such a grand weightlifting event has enhanced her confidence to a great extent. “It’s a good learning experience to participate in Afro-Asian Weightlifting Championship where weightlifters from eight countries are showing their talent,” she described.
Neelum, who is also a key member of Pakistan Kabaddi team, expressed her gratefulness to Director General Sports Punjab Usman Anwar for providing her an opportunity to feature in a mega event like Afro-Asian Weightlifting Championship. “DG SBP Usman Anwar has done a lot for the betterment of sports particularly women sports in the country”.
Neelum expressed her determination to do more hard work and win medal in the next international event.
