Lahore: Provincial Minister for Minorities Affairs & Human Rights Khalil Tahir Sandhu has said that effective implementation of laws is essential for controlling violation of human rights.
He was speaking at the inauguration of a 2-day paintings exhibition in connection with the International Human Rights Day at Institute of Language, Arts and Culture (PILAC), here today. The exhibition has been arranged by Provincial Department for Minorities Affairs and Human Rights.
Provincial Secretary Bushra Iman, Members Provincial Assembly Shehzad Munshi, Kanji Ram, boy and girl students, lawyers and a large number of people belonging to different walks of life were present on the occasion.
Khalil Tahir Sandhu said that human rights came into being simultaneously with the birth of humans. He said that constitution of Pakistan guarantees basic rights of all citizens. He said that there is a need for collective efforts for controlling violation of human rights at every level and change in social mindset is of vital importance in this regard.
The Minister appreciated the positive role of media, civil society and NGOs in the upholding of human rights. He said that all citizens will have to make concerted efforts for the progress and development of the country and protection of human rights.
Later, the Minister accompanied by the provincial secretary witnessed the paintings of the students on the topic of human rights and appreciated their talent. The exhibition will continue till 5.00 pm on Friday.
