Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has directed that foolproof security arrangements should also be ensured during third phase of local bodies’ elections. He said that no effort should be spared for ensuring peaceful conduct of local bodies’ elections. Police and administration should perform their duties efficiently for maintaining the environment of public peace in local bodies elections’ districts, he added.
The Chief Minister said that police have to play an active role for ensuring enforcement of law. He said that holding third phase of local bodies’ elections in a peaceful manner is a national responsibility and police and administrative officers should utilize all their energies of maintaining law and order on polling day. He said that precautionary measures should be completed for ensuring peaceful atmosphere. Shehbaz Sharif said that those involved in firing while celebrating victory will have to be dealt with an iron hand.
The Chief Minister said that he will not compromise on ensuring implementation of law. He directed that the law of ban on display and carrying of weapons should be strictly implemented throughout the province. He directed that security plan evolved in this regard should be implemented in letter and spirit. He said that foolproof security arrangements made for maintaining the atmosphere of public peace should be implemented effectively in the third phase of local bodies elections. He said that Cabinet Committee should monitor all steps for ensuring implementation of security plan evolved in this regard.
