Lahore: Former Ameer of the Jamaat e Islami, Syed Munawar Hassan has said that there was no such rule of the Election Commission as was not being violated in the Karachi local bodies elections yet the MQM was going to suffer a serious setback.
Talking to the media men at the Allama Iqbal Airport on his arrival from Karachi Tuesday afternoon, he said that the PTI-JI electoral alliance in the port city had given much hope that it would steer not only Karachi but the national politics out of crisis.
Syed Munawar Hassan said that the people of Karachi had heaved a sigh of relief due to the Karachi operation but the results of the operation had not been visible as had been expected, and added that the liaison between the people and the Rangers should be increased for this purpose.
The former JI chief said that in fact, there had not been any accountability of the MQM or the PPP otherwise Mr. Zardari would not have been acquitted nor the MQM hoodlums would have been roaming around freely.
Syed Munawar Hassan said that the Election Commission was a silent spectator on the violations of the election rules and code of conduct in Karachi although it was its responsibility to take notice of the irregularities.
He said the JI- PTI alliance for local bodies elections had given hope to the people and they seemed to be ready to ignore the MQM and support the alliance. As such, the situation appeared to be moving for the better.
Replying to a question, Syed Munawar Hassan said that the Modi government in India was in fact a “Muzi”( vexatious) government of which even the Indian Hindus were seeking refuge while its attitude towards Indian Muslims and other minorities had always been hostile. He said the Indian secularism was in fact Hindu secularism. Just as the western world was in the grip of Christian secularism, similarly, the Indian government was a puppet in the hands of Hindu secularism. Increasing extremism in India had exposed the democratic and secular face of the India, he added.
Commenting on the Nawaz-Modi meeting in Paris, he said nobody should expect any good from it. This was only a sudden, informal meeting, meant for public consumption and it did not have any link with the improvement in the regional situation.
