Dr. Farrukh inaugurates two days “Kissan Mela”

Minister Agriculture Dr. FarrukhLahore: Provincial Minister for Agriculture Dr. Farrukh Javed has said that government wants to benefit the farmer with latest researches and techniques in agriculture sector. Agricultural scientists will succeed when their research will reach the farmer in their fields. He said that the Green Revolution which has started from Potohar region, will soon reach Bahawalpur and Cholistan.

The Minister expressed these views while addressing a seminar regarding increase in Wheat Production after inaugurating two days “Kissan Mela” here today. Director General Agriculture (Research) Dr. Abid Mahmood, Director AARI Dr. Makhdoom Hussain and large number of growers from all four provinces of Pakistan were present at the occasion.

Minister for Agriculture in his address said that the cost of dap urea has decreased up to 700 rupees through Kissan package. He said that it’s the first time in history that any government has announced a package of 341 billion for farmers.

He said that we are self-sufficient in wheat and our next target is to maximize the per acre production of small farmers. “Kissan Package” is the first step in helping our farmers in difficulty. We are planning to introduce many such programs for farming community, he added.

Chief Minister Punjab’s vision is farmer friendly and Punjab government shapes its policies according to farmer’s feedback.He said that distribution of support amount in farmers is continuing in a very transparent manner. He said that through these initiatives government will be able to achieve its target of enhanced wheat production.

Dr. Abid Mahmood, Director General (Research) said that Punjab has a share of 76 % in country’s total wheat production. He said farmers will have to change their techniques and behavior with changing needs of climate. Pakistan is ranked 8th in wheat production in the world, however, there is considerable room for increasing the growth, he added. Provincial Minister for Agriculture inspected different stalls of latest agricultural machinery, medicine and solar tube wells in the end of the ceremony.
