GCDA Condemns the act of terrorism in Govt. Teaching Hospital Shahdara

Dr Masood Akhtar SheikhLahore: The emergent meeting of General Cadre Doctors Association Punjab condemns the brutal act of torture and terrorism by computer operator Shaista Amir with her husband Rana Amir and other colleagues on the Additional Medical Superintendent Govt. Teaching Hospital Shahdara, Lahore and demanded police to register FIR with proper articles including terrorism and use of fire arms on duty government officer.

The president GCDA Dr Masood sheikh, General secretary Dr Rana Rafique, Vice president Dr Asad Abbas, Joint secretary Dr Fatima Dr Muhammad Ashraf Dr Shahid chohan Dr Ghulam Farid addressed the meeting. While addressing the meeting GCDA president Dr Masood sheikh said that the computer operator Shaista Amir entered the room of additional medical superintendent Dr Zulfiqar butt and threatened him with the assistance of her husband Rana Amir and his two brothers. They actually used the fire arms and badly injure the senior doctors, who already is a cardiac patients. He said that the attack was so severe that the doctors life was put on risk. Dr sheikh said that this was not the first incidence of its kind, rather the same type of incidence happened some two months back, and the police did not register proper FIR, thus the criminals were encourages to repeat the incidence after a short time.

Dr Masood sheikh said despite repeated assurance of government the hospital has not been made zero tolerance zone, and proper safety and security of health care provides have not been ensured. He said that during such incidence the police always support criminals, and they give them full protection.

Dr Masood Sheikh urged the Chief Minister Punjab to take proper notice of the incidence and ensure registration of proper FIR with proper clauses including terrorism and use of fire arms. A resolution was passed to send letter to Chief Minister Punjab and CCPO Lahore for taking proper notice of the sad incidence. General Secretary GCDA Dr Rana Rafique stressed that the doctors are providing 24 hours medical coverage to patients and if such act of terrorism are not avoided, then it will be very difficult to carry on with Patients care. Vice president GCDA Dr Asad Abbas shah said that we have lot of respect for our journalist brothers but some people are involved in yellow journalism and are basically defaming the whole of the journalist community, he requested Lahore press club to take corrective measures for the proper redressal of such incidences in future.

Dr Muhammad Ashraf urged health department to terminate the services of the computer operator and start disciplinary action against the culprit. Finally a resolution was passed that such acts of terrorism will no more be tolerated and the senior doctors will resort to strike for their rights if the activity continues.
