Robotics competition RoboSprint-2015 held at the Main Campus of PAF-KIETLahore: A four-day national level event featuring an annual robotics competition RoboSprint-2015 was held at the Main Campus of PAF-KIET recently.  The aim of the event was to promote passion in
undergraduate students in the field of robotics. This was the first time that any robotics competition of this nature was held at Karachi.

The annual event indeed provided an excellent platform for promoting Robotics. In December last year, PAF-KIET had won the open bidding at CASE Islamabad, from among the top institutes of Pakistan, to host this year’s RoboSprint competition.

A total of 22 teams from various institutes, universities and colleges across Pakistan participated in the competition. These included Center of Advanced Studies in Engineering (CASE), Islamabad,  PAF-KIET
Karachi, University of Central Punjab, Lahore, IBA Sukkur, NED UET, Karachi,  Iqra University, Karachi,  Sir Syed Engineering University, Karachi,  University of Karachi,  and  Dawood University, Karachi.

In the General category, Sir Syed Engineering University Karachi was declared the winner while PAF-KIET secured the 2nd position. In the Special category, CASE Islamabad won the first position while students from Sir Syed Engineering University, Karachi, secured the second position. A prize money of around Rs Six lacs was distributed amongst the prize winners.

The event also catered for a junior category competition of Line Following Robots and Pick & Place Robots. Young students representing various schools from Karachi, Sukkur and Khairpur eagerly participated in the event and displayed their nascent skills and interest in the field of robotics.

The mega event was witnessed by highly professional members from the industry and the academia. A large number of students and youth were also present. Their presence and encouraging response, was a great source of motivation for the participants and organisers.

Air Vice Marshal (Ret’d) Tubrez Asif, President PAF-KIET, praised the efforts put in by the organising team headed by Gp Capt (Ret’d) Najeeb Jafri, Director College of Engineering. He also commended the highly innovative skills displayed by the young participants who took part in the event.
