Ayaz Sadiq should be elected unanimously:Ch Parvez Elahi

Lahore: Pakistan Muslim League (PML) senior central leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Ch Parvez Elahi held meetings with Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah and Tehrik-e-Insaaf Parliamentary Leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi and discussed with them bringing National Assembly Speaker by consensus.

He first met Syed Khurshid Shah and then both leaders held a meeting with Shah Mehmood Qureshi.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi said their leadership has decided that Shafqat Mahmood will be the candidate for the office of the Speaker. On this, Ch Parvez Elahi asked him to give message to the leadership that in other countries including Britain the Speakers are elected by consensus whereas talking to Ch Parvez Elahi, Syed Khurshid Shah informed him that the Peoples Party also supports efforts for bringing the Speaker by consensus.

Earlier on talking to media in the Parliament House, Ch Parvez Elahi welcoming return of the Mutahida Qaumi Movement in the Parliament said that this will strengthen democracy.

He said Ayaz Sadiq should be elected as the Speaker by consensus unanimously, his party PML also supports Ayaz Sadiq for the speakership.

Ch Parvez Elahi said the office of the National Assembly Speaker is non-political, role of the Speaker is also non-partisan, as such establishing a democratic tradition Sardar Ayaz Sadiq be got elected by consensus unanimously. He said in this regard support of other parties’ candidate for Speaker Ayaz Sadiq will be secured.
