Untrained traffic police failed to control traffic jams in Mandi Bahauddin

Mandi Bahauddin(Sher Gondal): Sloven and untrained traffic police has failed to control traffic jams in Mandi Bahauddin and on roads leading to the city which irk motorists and commuters.Worst hit points are College Chowk, Railway Crossing, Government Girls College Road and Sadar Chowk where traffic remains blocked for long hours.

When traffic mess is high, police cops disappear from the scene. Reportedly they, then pounce on motorcyclists coming from rural area and get their palm greased. There are complaints from public transport drivers as well that police extort monthlies from them for running their vehicles without caring for traffic rules. Therefore traffic jams have become a routine matter of every day.

This situation has been prevailing since long but the police and administration has not paid any heed to redress traffic problems. It is a reality that population of vehicles has increased but if traffic flow is regularized the jams can be avoided. In this direction government has neither planned nor has taken any tangible step. Last year people were told that railway overhead bridge would be constructed as a solution to traffic problems. This project has not yet been started. There is no traffic signal installed on chowks and turning points.

Social circles are of the opinion that traffic flow can be regularized and maintained with posting traffic policeman at each chowk and turning point at rush hours. Installing traffic signal can also enhance and capability of traffic police. People have urged local administration and traffic police to prepare traffic plan corresponding to increasing traffic and critical points and execute the same to remove miseries of the public.
