Washington: Senator Tim Kaine, a member of two US Senate committees on foreign relations and armed service, has said that the Pakistani government under Prime Minister Muhammad
Nawaz Sharif is going tough on terrorists.
He told Defence Writers Group reporters in Washington that the directional change came after the 2013 general elections, which brought a new democratic set-up in the country.
Senator Kaine, a top Democrat, who also met the Prime Minister last week when he visited the US Congress, said “War against terrorism continued.” “My sense is that Pakistan is now really going after enclaves of terrorists in North Waziristan and other areas. They are sincerely doing it,” he added.
The US Senator said these organizations were feeling tough pressure as the Pakistani government was cracking down on them.
Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had met with the top US leadership including President Barack Obama, Secretary of State John Kerry, Senator Tim Kaine and members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee during his four-day official visit to Washington from October 20-23, in which both sides discussed a wide range of issues related to bilateral cooperation and regional security.
