Lahore: The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan (ICMA Pakistan) organized 13th Management Accountants International Conference at local hotel in Bhurban Murree. During the conference guest speakers and panelists shared their views and deliberated on the theme of “Responsible Leadership for sustainable Economy”. The conference is organized after every three years and the Institute has been organizing this since 1966.
The conference started with the welcome address by Mr. Anis-ur-Rehman, Chairman CPD, Seminars and Conferences Committee of ICMA Pakistan. While welcoming the guests of honour, speakers and participants, Mr. Anis highlighted the significance of MAIC which is being organized since 1966. This 13th Management Accountants International Conference is continuation of Institute’s commitment towards professional development of the members in particular and other professionals in general.
Kashif Mateen Ansari, President ICMA Pakistan delivered introductory remarks. He highlighted the role of the Institute towards country’s economic development. He said that the Institute is actively involved to provide a platform to intellectuals and industry’s representatives to generate pragmatic ideas which serve as base for the government and regulatory authorities to set direction and devise policies for economic growth and development. He welcomed the delegates and participants from within Pakistan and abroad.
The first presentation on the occasion was delivered by Hasan A. Bilgrami, Former President ICMA Pakistan and President and CEO, Bankislami Pakistan Ltd. Mr. Bilgrami spoke on Analyzing a Distressed Bank: Beyond Accounting Numbers. During his presentation, he highlighted the need to think beyond just financial statements. He emphasized that today’s distressed banking sector has to evolve strategy to also look from long term sustainability.
The first technical session on “Changing Dynamics of Leadership” was chaired by Mr. Ashfaq Yousuf Tola, Senior Partner, Naveed Zafar Ashfaq Jaffery & Co.. The session started with the video recorded speech and messages of Fayezul Choudhury, Chief Executive Officer, IFAC and Rob Thomason, Executive GM Education, CPA Australia. This was followed by presentation of Vincent H. Tophoff, Senior Technical Manager, International Federation of Accountants. Mr. Vincent spoke on Integrated Reporting & Integrated Thinking—Leading Practices & International Developments. From ACCA, Mr. Brian McEnery, Deputy President delivered presentation on Responsible Leadership for a Sustainable Economy.
The second technical session on “Performance Management for Success and Integrated Reporting” was chaired by Muhammad Rafi, Former President SAFA and ICMA Pakistan. Rafi during his presentation highlighted Global Economic Outlook: Challenges and Opportunities of Pakistan. Mr. Ahmed Saeed, former President, ICAP presented paper on Integrated Reporting. The concluding address was made by Governor State Bank of Pakistan, Mr. Ashraf Mahmood Wathra who appreciated efforts of ICMA Pakistan for ensuring consistent continuing professional development activities for its members in particular and others in general.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Saghir ul Hassan, Honorary Treasurer, ICMA Pakistan. He thanked all the guests of honour, speakers, and delegates for their participation in the Conference.
