Lahore: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif’s exposing India before the Obama Administration followed by the United Nations for supporting terrorism inside Pakistan has perturbed Narendra Modi government Indian media those are already struggling to give a cover to proliferating religious and social
extremism in their so-called secular country.
During the four-day official visit to the United States, the Prime Minister and his team effectively raised the issue of Indian intervention in Pakistan’s Balochistan and tribal areas by supporting extremist elements to disrupt country’s peace and stability. Pakistan handed over a set of three dossiers to the US
Secretary of State John Kerry containing the evidences of Indian involvement in Pakistan’s territory.
This exposure of undemocratic actions by the state actors of India particularly RAW, the intelligence agency, has undermined the Indian dreams of becoming a regional power that has also long been
vying for United Nations Security Council membership.
The recent wave of violence in India by an extremist outfit Shiv Sena in India targeting Pakistani artists, authors and sportsmen, upper cast Hindus killing lower ones and desecration of sacred books by Hindus has exposed the Indian claims of world’s biggest democracy.
Amidst such scenario, the raising Kashmir dispute and Indian violence by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has made the international community to have second thought about the real face of India.
The manifestation of this realization is that the United States has included Kashmir as dispute in the joint statement issued after the bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Sharif and
President Barack Obama, besides calling for its resolution.
Earlier, India has always tried to talk away Kashmir as non-dispute besides hesitating to bring this dispute on agenda of bilateral talks.
Even recently, despite having agreed on sidelines of Ufa summit to discuss all outstanding issues, India backtracked from its stance demanding to limit the National Security Adviser’s talks to
issue of terrorism.
Pakistan has also desired the role of a third party to help settle the Pak-Indian disputes which so far, could not have been settled bilaterally.
In his reaction, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup downplayed mention of Kashmir in the US-Pakistan joint statement, saying India has always desired resolution of all issues
with Pakistan bilaterally through dialogue.
What to talk of resolving Kashmir dispute, Swarup even said India was opposed to the development activities going on in Azad Kashmir, contrary to Occupied Kashmir where thousands of innocent
people have been killed in their struggle for self-determination.
According to The Hindu, India has also expressed reservations about the support President Barack Obama has extended to securing finances for the Diamer-Bhasha and Dasu dams in Gilgit Baltistan
which India believes can not be built because of it is in a disputed area.
The dynamic foreign policy and clear stance on the issues by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his team has shrugged off all the gossips in international media before his visit that the United States would force Pakistan to limit its nuclear programme.
“Pakistan will never allow limits to be placed on its crown jewel, and particularly those imposed by the United States. As expected, the issue didn’t come up during the visit; the joint statement made only vague references to Pakistan’s participation in a U.S.-hosted nuclear security summit next year. We can assume that in the coming weeks, all this talk will fade away,” said Wall Street Journal in its Saturday’s article “Four Takeaways from Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s Washington Visit.”
The Indian ordeal is not yet over. What Modi Sarkaar hurt even more was the New York Time’s report of the US Administration selling eight F-16 jets to Pakistan.
Vikas Swarup, said, “Our reservations about providing such platforms [F-16] to Pakistan are well known and all countries are aware of India’s position in such cases,” according to the Hindu.
Prime Minister’s visit has also dispelled the Indian propaganda of Pakistan supporting Lashkar-e-Taiba and Haqqani Network with Nawaz Sharif committing that indiscriminate action will be taken against all groups involved in terrorism.
The bilateral commitment between Pakistan and the United States to jointly work for peace and stability in Afghanistan will also hit a blow to the Indian designs of destabilizing Pakistan by carrying out terrorist activities from inside Afghanistan.
Besides, India felt jealous over American recognition that Afghan peace cannot be won without Pakistan’s important role in peace process besides desiring Pakistan to help re-engage Taliban in
peace talks.
