Lahore: A function on the topic of white cane was held in connection with World Blind Persons Day at Al-Hamra Hall, today. Provincial Minister for Food Bilal Yasin was the chief guest on the occasion. MNA Kiran Dar, Commissioner Lahore Division Abdullah Sumbal and a large number of students of Special Education were present on the occasion.
Addressing the function Bilal Yasin said that blind persons are an important segment of our society. He said that Punjab government is providing opportunities of progress in vocational training and other sectors by bringing the blind persons into national mainstream. He said that Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has provided two storey building on eight marla land worth one crore rupees at Garhi shahu for the offices of association of blind persons in which offices of the association are working. He disclosed that government has provided jobs to 1500 blind persons and employed 3500 on daily wages.
The Provincial Minister told that the government has enhanced the quota fixed by blind persons from two percent to three percent and service cards have also been issued to them. He said that the role of blind persons in the national development is of great importance.
