justice r javed iqbal funeralLahore: The Old Ravians Union executive committee and faculty and staff members of Government College University Lahore Saturday expressed deep condolences on the sad demise of eminent Old Ravian Justice (r) Javed Iqbal, the son of Allama Muhammad Iqbal.

Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah said that Justice (r) Javed Iqbal was a source of inspiration for the university students and void created by his death could not be filled. He said that the university in collaboration with ORU would soon hold a condolence reference to remember the services of its eminent alumnus for the country and his literary and philosophical works.

Justice (r) Javed Iqbal did his graduation and masters from the Government College Lahore in early 1940s and had a great love for GCU from where his father Allama Muhammad Iqbal had also studied. He often came to the university to share his memories and thoughts with the young students.

ORU President Kamran Lashari and Honorary Secretary Dr Khalid Manzoor Butt remembered the last visit of Justice Javed Iqbal to GCU in April last year at the annual reunion dinner of Old Ravians.

Addressing the reunion, Justice (r) Javed Iqbal had recalled the days he spent at the Government College, Lahore. He remembered that he had used to come to the college on bicycle. He had urged the young generation to follow the Allama Iqbal’s message of Ijtihad. “There is an atmosphere of war between Ijtihad and Taqlid in today’s universities and tolerance is vanishing, so this is the most crucial time when the educational institutions like GCU have to play a leading role to guide youths in the right direction,” Javed Iqbal had said in his last address at GCU.

ORU General Secretary Mian Muhammad Ahamd Cahacharr, Vice President Advocate Tayyab Rizvi, former federal secretary Qazi Afaq Hussain and other executive members of the union also expressed condolences on the demise of Javed Iqbal.

In their condolence message to the bereaved family, the Vice Chancellor, faculty and ORU executive committee members prayed to the Almighty Allah to bless the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the deceased family members to bear the irreparable loss with fortitude.
