Every effort is being made for maintaining SDG standards in Punjab:Irfan Elahi

Lahore: A seminar was arranged under the aegis of Urban Unit and Lead Pakistan for reviewing the situation of Punjab and sustainable development goals. Chairman Planning & Development Irfan Elahi presided over the seminar while CEO Urban Unit Dr. Nasir Javed, CEO Lead Pakistan Ali Tauqeer Sheikh, Secretary Planning & Development Iftikhar Ali Sahu, Chairperson National Commission for Women Miss. Khawar Mumtaz and Director Population Welfare Department Dr. Afshan Tahir also participated.

Irfan Elahi said that Punjab as a big province of the country should make every effort for maintaining SDG standards as our district and government system has the capacity of meeting all such challenges. CEO Urban Unit Dr. Nasir Javed said that due to existing administrative weaknesses in various departments, difficulties were being faced for achieving millennium goals. He said that government machinery will have to coordinate among all institutions and possible resources.

SDG is a prescribed standard, upon which, member countries of UNO will implement their development agendas for the years 2015-2030. As the framework of SDG is in the final stages of its completion, therefore, Pakistan being the member of UNO has arranged such forum to formally convey its observations and proposals to UNO. The aim of holding this seminar is to make consultation with all institutions, NGOs, government departments and donor agencies so that the SDG could be achieved and fully benefitted.
