The biggest cultural event of Pakistan-China relations will be held on today

Lahore: The biggest cultural event in the history of Pakistan-China relations in the non-governmental sector will be held today on Monday (September 7) at the Pakistan-China Friendship Centre, Islamabad.

The program is part of celebrations marking 2015 as the Year of Pakistan-China Cultural Contacts. Organised by the Pakistan-China Institute in collaboration with China’s Tsinghua University and the Bolin Cultural Group, the event begins with a Roundtable on Preserving and Promoting Cultural Heritage Along the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor .

The panel, which will be moderated by Dr. Dushka Saiyid who is Editor of the flagship cultural magazine & website, youlinmagazine.com, features a panel of speakers from Tsinghua University, who came to Pakistan from China by road and who will deliver speeches on the promotion of cultural connectivity and interaction between China and Pakistan’s Northern Areas, via the Economic Corridor.

In addition, the CEO of Aga Khan Cultural Services (AKCS), Salman Beg, will give a presentation on the AKCS work in Gilgit Baltistan and Lahore towards the conservation of ancient cultural heritage sites. The presentations will be followed by a discussion. The audience will include members of the diplomatic community, heads of distinguished art centers in the city, as well art students and academicians.

Then in the afternoon at 5:30 pm, there will be a cultural exhibition and musical concert, at which speeches will highlight the cultural connection between Pakistan and China, particularly the teachings of the great Chinese philosopher, Confucius. Information Minister Senator Pervez Rashid will be the Chief Guest, while the Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan and other notables including Tsinghua University Professor Li Xiguang and Chairman Bolin Culture Group, Lin Yuowu, plus Senator Mushahid Hussain, Chairman, Pakistan-China Institute, will address the gathering amidst a colourful setting and music by the Khumariyan musical group using traditional instruments.

The program, which will be held at the Pak-China Friendship Centre, is open to the public, including families and students.
