Lahore: The Chairman of Pakistan Awami Tehreek Dr. Tahirul Qadri has said that PAT had challenged the appointment of unconstitutionally appointed members of the Election Commission in the Supreme Court and the than Chief Justice Iftikhar Ch due to his political affiliations refused to hear and rejected our petition without even a single hearing.
He said it was PAT that came out on the streets and held a long march and a sit-in in Islamabad in which millions of people participated against this unconstitutional election commission.
According to a press release issued by the PAT media cell the PAT chief was addressing the Life Members Convention of PAT and Minhajul Quran in The Netherlands he said that the rulers treat the Constitution of the country like a wax nose and want to turn and twist it according to their wishes and desires. He said if the constitution was implemented than today we would not have had an illegal ECP and nobody would have had to wait for seven years for the holding of the Local Bodies elections.
Dr. Tahirul Qadri said despite a written agreement the than Peoples’ Party government never moved an inch in this direction and never desired election reforms and did not fulfill its constitutional duty. He said even today we are of the view that as the 2013 elections were held by an unconstitutional election commission thus the whole process was bogus and the parliament that came into being because of these elections is a total fraud. He said this parliament is not the true representative of the people of the country.
The PAT chief declared that PAT would ensure that the overseas Pakistanis, who are the backbone of our economy, are given their rights and also use the experience of all these patriot Pakistanis to bring the country at par with the developed world. He said that today everyone is demanding the resignation of the members of the illegal and unconstitutional Election Commission while we had pointed out this flaw well before the 2013 elections and this was one of the reasons to hold the long march and sit-in.
The PAT chief said that our party is considering seeking the advice of the superior court for the removal of the unconstitutionally appointed members of election commission and the new ECP should be formed within the ambit of the Constitution
