Lahore: Pakistan cricket team’s captain Misbah-ul-Haq met Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif here today. Matters regarding promotion of cricket were discussed in the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that cricket is very popular in the country and Pakistani cricket team has won the recent cricket series against Sri Lanka through giving an excellent performance for which the management and the players of the cricket team deserve appreciation. He said that Pakistani cricket team is ambassador of the country and it proved this fact through excellent teamwork inside and outside the ground during the recent tour of Sri Lanka.
The Chief Minister said that negative activities can be curbed through promotion of cricket and other sports. He said that besides, promoting discipline, sports also help in reducing tension in the society. He said that Punjab government has taken effective measures for the promotion of different sports including cricket. He said that sports are essential for setting up a healthy society and also help in curbing the trend of extremism.
Shahbaz Sharif said that Pakistani players are very talented and have proved this fact at international level. He said that there is a need for comprehensive planning for the promotion of cricket at lower level for polishing this talent. He said that Punjab government is spending huge resources on the promotion of sports activities in the province. He said that the recent cricket series against Zimbabwe in Lahore is an important step towards revival of international cricket in Pakistan and it is hoped that more cricket teams will come to the country in future.
