Google and Lahore Museum will work together to promote culture

Lahore: Director Public Policy and Government Affairs of Google Asia Pacific, Ms. Ann Lavin called on Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif here today. Matters regarding increase in cooperation between Google and Punjab government in information technology sector were discussed in the meeting. The Chief Minister said that promotion of information technology is of utmost importance for speedy development and Punjab government is implementing a comprehensive policy for promotion of e-governance.

He said that information technology is being utilized for the capacity-building of various institutions while modern technology is being used for improving service delivery system. He said that full benefit is being taken of digital technology for the improvement of education, health, infrastructure, law and order, police and other social sectors. Similarly, he said, information technology is utilized with regard to the measures being taken under National Action Plan for elimination of terrorism from the province.

The Chief Minister further said that Land Record Management and Information System has helped in facilitating the masses in obtaining ownership deed while the use of modern technology has also helped in elimination of corruption, fraud and forgery. He said that a system has been evolved for the monitoring of government affairs through smart phones and provision of best services to the masses is being ensured through citizen’s feedback system.

Shahbaz Sharif said that Pakistan’s first information technology university in public sector has been set up in Lahore which is playing an important role in imparting modern knowledge to boy and girl students. He said that Google Culture Institute and Google Street View projects are important with regard to promotion of culture. He said that collaboration between Google and Lahore Museum is welcome and Punjab government wants to further promote cooperation with Google.

Director Public Policy and Government Affairs Google Asia Pacific Ms. Ann Lavin said that cooperation with Punjab government will be further promoted in future and a high level delegation of Google will visit Pakistan next month. She also commended the measures taken by Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif for the promotion of information technology in the province.

Chairman Punjab Information Technology Board Dr. Umar Saif and Secretary Information Momin Agha were also present on the occasion.
