IJT goons deserve no concession: PU Spokesman

125 FinalLahore: Reacting to IJT goons’ attack on PU teachers, officers and employees, a Punjab University spokesman has said that the rascals who have attacked PU officials on Independence Day deserved no concession and the administration would take serious legal action against those elements who were involved in the incident. He said that nobody would be allowed to challenge the writ of administration. Condemning the incident, he said that PU administration could not be pressurized through such tactics.

Meanwhile, Punjab University Academic Staff Association has called upon Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif to take notice of the elements who wanted to destroy peaceful academic environment of the university and launch immediate operation against such terrorists. They said that the IJT goons who had attacked PU teachers, officers and guards must be arrested immediately and justice should be provided in this case.

In an emergency press conference held here at PU Executive Club, ASA President Prof Dr Hasan Mobeen Alam, Vice President Dr Abid Hussain Chaudhry, Secretary Dr Mahboob Hussain, Chairman Hall Council Prof Dr Muhammad Akhter and other teachers said that Pakistan Army was engaged in Operation Zarb e Azb and eliminating terrorists from country but on the other side, Punjab Police were supporting those elements who were supporting terrorists.

He said that whenever such incident of terror took place on campus, police officials pressurized PU administration instead of taking action against culprits. Detailing the incident, they said that an official ceremony to celebrate Independence Day was organized outside VC office in the morning in which PU teachers, employees, students and children took part. They said that after Friday prayers, some IJT members called for non-student elements and outsiders and tried to organize another ceremony.

On receiving information, Chairman Hall Council Dr Muhammad Akhter along with some senior teachers reached the spot and asked what were they doing without informing administration and why they had called for outsiders? In reply, IJT members including Osama Naseer, Abdul Samad and others rudely behaved and said they did not find it necessary to inform administration.

Dr Akhter said that no ceremony could be organized without administration’s permission. The IJT goons strongly misbehaved with teachers and attacked them.  Meanwhile, PU guards reached the spot. Later, police reached the spot. Talks were underway but suddenly, IJT goons again attacked PU security van with rods and bricks and injured several guards. An IJT goon pelted stone on PU Additional Registrar II Malik Muhammad Zaheer due to which he received injury on his head and was immediately shifted to Sheikh Zayed Hospital where he was operated with 7 stitches.

Resident Officer 1 Prof Dr Sajid Rashid and Institute of Quality and Technology Management’s Assistant Prof Dr Muhammad Shafiq also received injuries. They said two security guards Pervaiz and Abdul Malik also received injuries on their heads while other teachers and employees were also tortured.
