Lahore: Provincial Minister for Population Welfare, Begum Zakia Shahnawaz has said that the youth are the future asset and can play an important role in progress and prosperity of the society.
She expressed these views while addressing Pakistan Youth Icon Award ceremony held in connection with International United Nations Youth Day, here today. She said that Punjab government has started a number of welfare projects for youth which are yielding positive result. She said that United Nations Youth Day is celebrated every year on August 12 and its aim is to highlight the role of youth in the United Nations.
Begum Zakia Shahnawaz said that Punjab government has taken revolutionary steps in education sector as education is a key to progress. She stressed upon youth to devote their capabilities for the development of the nation and the country and continue their efforts for coping with the challenges of 21st century.
Secretary General United Nations Ban ki-Moon also inculcated the spirit among youth in the war against terrorism and public service. Chairman Revolution Youth Clan Rizwan Anwar highlighted in detail the aims and objectives of his youth program.
Later, Begum Zakia Shahnawaz inaugurated the program “City Changes Campaign”. The aim of this program is to motivate the youth to participate in development work in rural areas. In the end, she distributed awards among the youth displaying outstanding performance.
