Lahore: Secretary General, Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch, has said there was no law to de-seat any assembly member and the relevant house alone had the right to decide the issue.
Addressing the JI central workshop for party workers at Mansoora, he said that a non-issue was being highlighted only to divert public attention from the real issues facing the country. The rulers had no desire to fight against poverty, ignorance, unemployment and price spiral, he added.
Terming corruption as the biggest problem of the country, the JI Secretary General said it was time that the nation united on a system of accountability like the NAP against terrorism, wherein no one was above the law. The ministers, advisors, bureaucracy, establishment and the armed forces must be brought to accountability, he added. He also urged all political parties talking of democracy to decide in principle not to issue party tickets to individuals having bad reputation.
Welcoming the judgment by Mr. Justice Jawad A, Khawaja of the Supreme Court in Urdu, Liaqat Baloch stressed upon the rulers and bureaucracy to take practical measures to promote the national language.
The JI central leader said that incompetent rulers and policy makers were responsible for the deteriorating economy. He said that the country had to face floods every year which washed away crops and habitations on vast area causing heavy losses of life and property. However, he said that the rulers and the concerned state institutions were found unaware.
He said that water was a precious natural commodity but heavy quantity of water was wasted and allowed to pass into the sea. He said that if new dams and water reservoirs had been built, not only floods would have been controlled but the problem of load shedding would have been overcome.
He asked if the Kalabagh dam had become controversial, what was the hurdle in building Dasu, Bhasha, Kori and Munda dams. He called for allocating funds for dams like the China Pak Economic corridor.
Liaqat Baloch said that the political parties only paid lip service to democracy while there was no democracy in their own ranks. Political parties had become family affairs and tickets were issued to land grabbers, drug pushers and corrupt people and were won elections with the connivance of the election staff. He said as soon as NAB started action against those involved in mega corruption, the wealthy and influential elite stepped forward to defend the corrupt.
