Lahore: Director General Punjab Food Authority, Dr. Sajid Chauhan has said that Punjab Food Authority in accordance with the vision of Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif for provision of quality and unadulterated food items to the consumers and with the cooperation of hotels and restaurant owners is providing food safety culture.
He said that a comprehensive ordinance is being introduced with regard to legal framework of Punjab Food Authority, hotels and restaurants categorization and Appellate court. He said that food safety system is being implemented with the help of hotel owners based on public friendly and hygienic principles.
He was addressing a training workshop of restaurants owners and managers for the provision of hygienic food in accordance with health standards to the citizens arranged by Punjab Food Authority and Special Monitoring Units to Chief Minister at Alhamra Hall, here today.
Deputy Director Operations Food Saqib Aziz and food experts gave briefing to hotels and restaurants owners regarding food safety. Owners of more than sixty prominent hotels and restaurants, managers, food experts, consumers, chefs and food safety officers were present on this occasion.
Dr. Sajid Chauhan said that hotels and restaurants owners should arrange training of kitchen staff, waiters and concerned employees with regard to hygienic principles in the interest of the health of the citizens. He said that implementation of rules and regulations of Punjab Food Authority is the responsibility of hotels and restaurants owners so that provision of safe and quality food to the people should be ensured.
He said that Punjab Food Authority will undertake checking of all hotels and restaurants regarding implementation of rules and regulations and the method of grading will be evolved under Punjab Food Authority Scoring System. He said that hotels and restaurants owners should not compromise on the standard and hygienic principles and added that the teams of Punjab Food Authority will pay surprise visits to different hotels and restaurants of different categories to check sanitary condition and the material used in the preparation of food.
He further said that hotels owners should pay special attention to the cleanliness condition in their kitchen as unhygienic food result in food poisoning, diarrhea besides affecting kidneys and eye sight. He said that Punjab Food Authority is performing its duties in the interest of public health and most of hotels owners extend all out cooperation to the officials of food authority during checking. He said that no injustice is committed however the checking process will be continued without indiscrimination. Meanwhile; Chairman Punjab Revenue Authority, Dr.Raheel Siddiqui has said that Punjab Revenue Authority has inaugurated Restaurant Invoice Monitoring System in Lahore and said that more than 50 restaurants of Lahore have been selected in the first phase where this software will be installed and all record of consumers will reach Revenue Authority.
He said that Punjab Revenue Authority has made planning of registering Shahi Qila Food Street, MM Alam Road and hotels around Qaddaffi Stadium under Restaurant Invoice Monitoring System in Lahore in the first phase which will be completed till next month. Revenue received from restaurants will increase 40 times under this system, he added.
He expressed these views while talking to media after inaugurating Restaurant Invoice Monitoring System at Bistro 201 Restaurant, here today. Member Punjab Revenue Authority Mohi ud Din Wani, Commissioner Enforcement Javed Ahmed and concerned authorities of restaurant management were also present on the occasion.
Dr. Raheel Siddiqui informed that this is the first Restaurant Invoice Monitoring System which is being started from Lahore. He said that Punjab Chief Minister had given a target to Punjab Revenue Authority to introduce this system of Invoice Monitoring and according to the instructions of Chief Minister, this system has been formally launched. He said that after expanding its scope to all the restaurants of Lahore, it will be enforced throughout the province.
He said that availability of this software will eliminate human interference and at the time of payment of bill in the restaurants, all information regarding tax deduction will reach the department. He said that a prize scheme is being introduced for special interest of citizens in this programme, under which, the consumers can win precious prizes every week by paying their bills after eating meals in the registered hotels.
Dr. Raheel Siddiqui said that Punjab Revenue Authority will give prizes like vehicle, umrah tickets, laptops, mobiles and food coupons every week to the citizens. He said that Punjab Information Technology Board has especially developed this software which will result in huge revenue generation of Punjab government. He said that an invoice will be generated at the payment of bills in the restaurants under this system and it will be registered in the Revenue Authority without any delay. He said that consumers, hotel owners and government will benefit from this system.
