JI demands action against officials responsible for electoral irregularities

siraj ul haq addressing a ceremony at MansooraLahore: Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Senator Sirajul Haq, has called for strict accountability of the government functionaries responsible for irregularities in the 2013 elections in the light of the Judicial Commissions report.

He was addressing a seminar held in memory of the former Ameer of the JIP, Mian Tufail Muhammad on the occasion of his sixth death anniversary.  Eminent speakers including senior jurist S.M. Zafar, Mujibuir Rahman Shami, Auria Maqbool Jan, PTI’s Eijaz Ahmed Chaudhry, Sajad Mir, Dr Husain Ahmed Piracha, and Liaqat Baloch paid rich tributes to Mian Tufail Muhammad for his rich services for the enforcement of the Islamic system in the country and in framing the 1973 constitution on Islamic lines.

Sirajul Haq said that irregularities had been committed by the functionaries appointed by the government and they must be taken to task for that. He also suggested to the government to hold an APC to discuss the Judicial Commission’s report and for introducing electoral reforms so that the elections in future could be free from such irregularities, fair and transparent.

He said that the JI’s struggle for the supremacy of the constitution and for democracy were not unknown. He said that democracy was essential for the country like water and light. However, he said, that the JI believed in Islamic democracy in which the common man enjoyed equal rights with the rulers and the masses were partners in the government system through their elected representatives.

Sirajul Haq said that the constitution was Islamic in character and under it no such law could be framed as was repugnant to the Quran and the Sunnah. The constitution made it obligatory for the government to facilitate the propagation of virtue and to curb evil. However, he said, the constitution had not been implemented even for a single day and as the rulers themselves were the biggest hurdle in this way.

He said that he had met Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif in the Masjid e Nabvi during the holy month of Ramazan and requested him to order abolition of interest based economic system, stop obscenity through the media and framing a code of ethics for the media,  and for ending the proxy war in the country in order to restore peace.

He said he had also met the Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and called upon the government to raise voice on the victimization of JI Bangladesh leaders by the Dhaka government.

Sirajul Haq said that it was incumbent upon the government to support the Kashmiris struggle for independence. However, he said, that rulers had been sabotaging the Kashmiris freedom movement.

Former Federal Law Minister S.M. Zafar said that the JI had never indulged in unlawful activities yet it had been facing curbs in the past.

He counseled the JI leadership to move the International Court of Justice against the trials of JI Bangladesh leaders by the BD government, and said he was ready to contest the JI case there.

Mujibur Rahman Shami noted that Maulana Syed Abul Aala Maudoodi and Mian Tufail Muhammad had rendered invaluable services for framing the 1973 constitution which was Islamic in character. However, he said, that the constitution was not being implemented.

Auria Maqbool Jan said that the people of Bangladesh were paying a high price for their revolt against Islamabad. He said that prior to 1970, no Bengali had to go to India for a job but at present, about 9.7 million Bengalis were doing jobs under Hindus in India for small salaries. Similarly, he said, that before 1970, no Bengali women had to serve as prost but today, about one million Bengali women were doing that job in different parts of the world.
