Lahore: Spokesman Punjab government and Member Punjab Assembly Syed Zaeem Hussain Qadri has said that Punjab government is taking effective steps for the welfare of journalists and a comprehensive plan is being implemented with the consultation of representatives of journalist organizations in this regard.
He expressed these views while talking on the occasion of giving cheques of financial assistance to the widow of a deceased journalist, treatment of journalists and marriage of a daughter, at DGPR Office, here today. Director General Public Relations Ather Ali Khan and President Lahore Press Club Arshad Ansari were also present on the occasion.
Approval of cases of 16 journalists was given in a meeting of Journalist Support Fund Committee. Cheques for Rs. 50 thousand were given to 13 journalists for treatment while a cheque for one lakh rupees was given to a journalist suffering from cancer.
Similarly, cheques for Rs. 50 thousand were given to the families of two late journalists. It may be mentioned that the meeting of Journalist Support Fund Committee is regularly held in which approval is given for treatment of sick journalists, marriage of daughters and giving financial assistance to widows of late journalists.
