Lahore: Director General Sports Punjab Usman Anwar has announced that sports is being introduced as a compulsory subject in government and private schools. International standard parking plaza and hotels will also be constructed in Nishtar Park Sports Complex. He made these announcements on Monday while talking to media at National Hockey Stadium.
DG SBP Usman Anwar said Punjab govt was whole-heartedly working on introducing sports as an essential subject in schools. “Punjab govt’s revolutionary step will have great effect on the bright sporting future of Pakistan,” he explained. He said almost all the govt schools have their own sports grounds but most of them are not functioning.
He further said that besides parking plaza and hotels, hectic work is under progress on the completion of effective sewerage system and green belts in Nishtar Park Sports Complex.
DG SBP informed that Sports Board Punjab (SBP) was the only institution in Punjab which is certified and also has its own media cell.
Regarding security system in Nishtar Park Sports Complex, Usman Anwar told that Sports Board Punjab has taken all the possible measures to make the security situation foolproof in its vicinity. “As per directives of Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, CCTV security cameras have been installed and security gates have been constructed at all the entry points of the Nishtar Park Sports Complex. These security facilities played a key role in making Zimbabwe cricket team’s recent tour a success,” he described.
About the Punjab Youth Festival, DG SBP said: “The experience of Punjab Youth Festival met with great success. It was acknowledged by all the quarters not only within the country but across the border as well. Our opponents also criticized the mega event which was a great proof of its success,” he elaborated.
Usman Anwar informed that SBP has started several sports projects to build multi-purposes stadia, indoor gymnasium and Sports City Complex in Lahore. “These projects will be of great significance in regard to sporting fortunes of the country,” he concluded.
