Lahore: Provincial Minister for Education Rana Mashud Ahmad Khan has said that “Parho Punjab—Barho Punjab” initiative is running successfully. Not only school enrollment has increased but provision of missing facilities has also improved after launching of this campaign. He said that the role of NGOs in promotion of education is of vital importance. The role of “Umeed Jawan” is commendable to counter the increasing tendency of intolerance in society, he added.
He expressed these views while addressing inaugural ceremony of newly constructed building and computer lab of Govt. Wasif Ali Wasif Boys High School, Gulshan-e-Ravi, today. Chief Executive Umeed Jawan Sarwat Jehan, EDO Education Lahore Pervaiz Akhtar and teachers were also present on the occasion. New furniture, computers, printer, fans, sound system, sports items and school bags were provided by Umeed Jawan to the school. While addressing the ceremony, the Minister said that government considers education the most effective weapon to overcome all challenges being faced by the country. That is why, the government allocated record 27 percent budget for education. He said that government appreciates every NGO which is playing role in promotion of education.
He thanked Umeed Jawan for provision of necessary gadgets and items. He said that a school council consisting of locals will be constituted to improve the performance of the school. Moreover, training of teachers will also be arranged. Sarwat Jehan said that civil society should play its role in promotion of education along with government. She said that Umeed Jawan will continue its cooperation for the purpose.
Later, the Education Minister chaired a ceremony organized by Fatima Memorial Hospital in which auto rickshaws, sewing machines and food hampers were distributed among employees. While addressing the event, the Minister said that youth is the future of the country and to equip them with modern education is guarantee of our bright future. Maulana Fazal-ur-Raheem, Maulana Raghib Hussain Naeemi, Chairperson Fatima Memorial System Shaheema Rehman and Secretary Zakat Habib-ur-Rehman Gillani were also present in this ceremony.
