Lahore: Special Monitoring Unit (Law and Order), Chief Minister’s Office announces the initiation of project, Shehr-e-Khamoshan, which is a landmark project conceived in accordance with Chief Minister’s vision to provide a hassle free burial experience to the grieving families. The project will be executed by City district governments of respective districts. These designed model graveyards will provide toll-free helpline for proper burial assistance by the graveyard, hearse service, shuttle service to transport the grieving family, body bathing arrangement, funeral prayer section and mortuary to preserve the body for those waiting for their relatives from overseas.
Land has been identified in Mauza Rakh Cheddu near Ferozepur Road to establish this model graveyard in Lahore along with in Multan and Sargodha as well. Chief Minister has constituted model graveyard’s Implementation Committee under the chairmanship of Khawaja Ahmad Hassan, Advisor to Chief Minister, in which Commissioner Office, DCO Lahore, AC Model Town, EDO (MS), ADC(R) played a crucial role in identifying the land. Commissioner Office and DCO Office worked closely with SMU (Law and Order) to develop SOPs for all future graveyard to be established in Punjab.
The cumbersome burial process will come to an end as soon as Shehr-e-Khamoshan will be established and citizens of Punjab will find their government standing right beside them in this hour of grief.
SMU appreciates the overwhelming support of philanthropists for establishment of CM’s Special Monitoring Unit (Law and Order) proposed model graveyard, ‘Shehr e Khamoshan’, in Lahore, especially of Sufi Group of Companies for donating 2 hearse service vehicles and Master Paints for donating 1 hearse service vehicle. These hearse service vehicles will be used to transport the deceased’s body to the graveyard free of cost.’
