PUEHS land will not be acquired for the Metro Orange Train project:Khawaja Ahmad Hassan

1(26-06-15)Lahore: The City government, on the directive of Punjab chief minister, Friday formally announced that it would not use Punjab University Employees Housing Society (PUEHS) land for the Metro Orange Train project and the train stumbling yard would be constructed 0.7km away from the teachers housing society on Raiwind Road.

The announcement was made by Lahore Transport Authority chairman Khawaja Ahmed Hassan at the PU Academic Staff Association (ASA) general body meeting held at new campus Al Razi Hall here on Friday. Vice Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran, ASA President Prof Dr Hassan Mobeen Alam, Secretary Dr Mahboob Hussain, Dr Mujahid Mansoori, PUEHS Chairman Prof Dr Shahid Kamal and hundreds of teachers and employees were present in the meeting. 

Kh Hassan, who is also vice chairman LDA, said that Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif had advised them not to implement the project without taking teachers into confidence. “I was convinced from the first day that such a developed society of teachers should not be disturbed where teaching have already constructed their houses, however, we had to take Chinese engineers and other team members into confidence before deciding about any alternative piece of land for construction of train depot,” Kh Hassan said.

He said PUEHS Town II NoC would be issued soon as today (Friday) LDA issued a chalan form to university for submission of dues in this regards. To a question regarding Town III he invited proposals from PUASA and assured his all-out cooperation.

Speaking on this occasion vice chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran thanked CM and asked Kh Hassan to pay special thanks of PU administration, teachers and employees to the chief minister. He said since Kh Hassan himself remained a student of PU therefore he fully knew that how teachers sentiments were attached to the housing society.  

ASA President Prof Dr Hassan Mobeen Aalm and Secretary thanked Kh Hassan and teachers and employyes for their struggle in this regards.

Later, all the teachers and employees extend felicitations to the ASA leadership for this historic achievement.
