Lahore: International Anti-Dengue Day was observed for creating awareness among the people for eradicating dengue throughout the province.
Walks were held by government departments, private organizations and civil society for creating awareness about elimination of dengue in all districts including Lahore. Special banners were displayed regarding eradication of dengue in prominent places at most of the cities of the province.
Pamphlets and informative literature were distributed among the people. Health experts addressing seminars in various cities told that people have to eliminate dengue hotspots within the houses. Accumulation of water in various utensils and water tanks can become the source of dengue breeding. Experts stressed the need of community participation in anti-dengue campaign.
Health Department Punjab arranged an awareness walk which was participated by officers and employees.
Additional Director General Health Dengue Control Program Dr. Islam Zafar led the walk. An awareness walk from Liberty roundabout to Hafeez Centre was also arranged which was led by Member Provincial Assembly & Chairman Emergency Response Committee Gulberg Town Mohsin Latif and Secretary Population Welfare Altaf Ezid Khan. Pamphlets and posters were distributed among citizens about dengue. Cooperative Department arranged a seminar at Govt. Degree College for Women Margzar Colony which was presided over by MPA Malik Saif ul Malook Khokhar.
Member Provincial Assembly Ch. Yasin Sohal also led an awareness walk from Baab-e-Pakistan Walton to Defense Mor arranged by Lahore Cantonment Board and Walton Cantonment Board.
Besides government officers, students and teachers as well as citizens participated in the walk in large numbers. Awareness seminars were also arranged by departments and educational institutions of Cantonment Board. Anti-dengue seminar and walk was also arranged by Samanabad Town which were participated by people from all walks of life.
Provincial Home Department and other departments also observed Anti-Dengue Day during which garbage and accumulated water were removed and spray was conducted.
Anti-Dengue Day was also observed in the offices of Information & Culture Department during which cleanliness of offices and spots of water at roofs were checked. Officers and staff of Information Department took active part in anti-dengue activities.
