Training for position-holders begins at GCU

Lahore: The two-day training and orientation of position-holders from all over Pakistan ThursdayGCU PIC (1) began has begun at the Government College University, Lahore under the auspices of its Quality Enhancement Cell to edify their skills in communication, interaction and questioning.

These shinning students are going to visit the leading European universities from June 13, 2015 under the Chief Minister’s initiative. Punjab Education Minister Rana Mashood Ahmad chaired the opening session of the training which was also addressed by Punjab Higher Education Commission Chairman Prof Dr Nizamud-Din, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman and United Nations Information Centre Director Vittorio Cammarota.

Addressing the position-holders, Rana Mashood said that the Punjab government was going to provide hundred per-cent scholarship to the position-holders who would secure their admission in the top hundred universities of the world. He told the position-holders that they were the real elite of Pakistan who had earned this status through their hard work and talent and the Punjab government would provide every maximum support to them for their bright future.

Vice Chancellor Prof Rahman told the students that they would this year visit the leading universities of the United Kingdom, Germany and Sweden and meet eminent scientists and personalities of the world. He lauded the Chief Minister’s initiative, saying the study tour broadened vision of these talented students and inspired them to lead the world in their respective fields. The Vice Chancellor said these positions holders would be walking ambassadors of Pakistan, so they were being given extensive training and briefing about their conduct during the study tour. He, however, lauded the learning skills of these positions holders, and also said that that they were highly talented and cultured, and their visit to Europe would change impression of Pakistanis in the world.

GCU Quality Enhancement Cell Director Iram Sohail said that this training ceremony would equip these highly talented students with relevant skills to explore the unique aspect of the Western education system at this once in a life time opportunity for them. She hoped that this would enable them to subsequently seek admission in the universities of the technologically advanced countries of the world.

Later, English Department Assistant Professor Sadiq Awan and noted other academicians also addressed the training workshop.
