Lahore: Punjab University Academic Staff Association (PUASA) general body meeting has severely criticized the LDA for trying to acquire the land of PU Housing Society instead of influential political personalities’ vacant land situated near to the route of Metro Orange Train Project.
Addressing an emergency press conference ASA president Dr Hassan Mobeen Aalam, Secretary Dr Mahboob Hussain and Housing Society President Dr Shahid Kamal said that LDA was trying to save the land of Saith Abid, Karamat Ali Khokhar and other influential political personalities and they targeted the land of PU housing society where hundreds of families were living and many more house were being constructed. They said that LDA had given final approval of the PU Society in 2013 following which a large number of teachers have settled there along with their families.
Earlier in the morning, hundreds of teachers participated in the ASA General Body meeting and expressed their resolve that even a single inch of the teachers’ land wouldn’t be allowed to acquire by any party. They also said that now the value of the land was more than Rs 10 billion hard earned by the teachers in their consistent struggle of more than 13 years. The teachers’ body also decided to take support of the law and submit a writ petition to the court.
