CM inaugurates office of PHEC at Arfa Karim Software Technology Park

CM Punjab 01Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif while addressing the inaugural ceremony of Punjab Higher Education Commission at Arfa Karim Software Technology Park and the concluding session of training workshop for journalists jointly arranged by CPNE, UNDP and Punjab Higher Education Commission highlighted in detail the important role of media regarding resolution of problems of Pakistan.

He said that media has a key role and he also takes guidance from print and electronic media. He said that media should also highlight the issues directly linked to the people. Quoting an example of his government in 1997-98, the Chief Minister informed that he decided to eliminate booti mafia in that tenure after reading a media report published in a newspaper in which son of a minister belonging to Sheikhupura was shown cheating in a fake examination center.

Mentioning the policy regarding admission on merit in Atchison College, Shahbaz Sharif told that he brought merit policy of admission by eliminating quota in Atchison College during last year. Earlier, sons of politicians, senior officers and Tuman Dars got admission in Aitchison College.

A message was conveyed to him by principal that five admissions are important and allow him to admit them contrary to merit, if permission was not granted, grandson of your late brother will also not get admission.

The Chief Minister said he replied that no compromise can be made on merit and he will also have to adopt merit policy as has been set in all institutions of the Punjab upon which the hall resounded with clapping.
