PU, WWF sign MoU to conserve environment

PU, WWF sign MoU to conserve environmentLahore: Punjab University College of Earth and Environmental Sciences and World Wildlife Fund under its International Eco Internship Program has signed a memorandum to deliver an extensive program of environmental awareness to the youth of Pakistan.

PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran, WWF Pakistan’s Senior Director Anwar Nasim, Director External Linkages Dr Maria Maldonado, Principal College of Earth & Environmental Sciences Prof Dr Firdaus-e-Bareen and others were present on the occasion.

The purpose of this collaboration is to make students aware of the country’s environmental challenges and how they can contribute towards nature conservation. It is also meant to create a constituency of environmentally enlightened, likeminded people who can affect change. This hands-on awareness program with a global organization will also enhance the future education and career prospects for the students of CEES. Under the agreement, WWF will provide funds for awareness activities, seminars and events related to environmental protection, sustainability and research conducted by CEES while CEES will roll out, minimum 200 students every fiscal year, the International Eco Internship Programme to its students.

Meanwhile, PU Department of Political Science and Centre for Peace and Development Initiatives signed MoU for Cooperation in Civic Engagement and Community Outreach signed an MoU. The ceremony was held at committee room of Vice Chancellor’s office in which PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran, CPDI Pakistan’s Program Manager Raja Shoaib Akbar, Dean Faculty of Arts and Humanities Prof Dr Iqbal Chawla, Chairperson Department of Political Science Prof Dr Umbreen Javaid, Director Pakistan Study Centre Prof Dr Massarrat Abid, Director External Linkages Dr Maria Maldonado and others were present on the occasion. The objective of the MoU is to lay out a framework for the successful partnership to foster relationship of academia with community development stakeholders and actors.

Both the parties are committed to support the objective and goals to increase the community outreach and cultivate civic engagement culture among university students.
